Priority Gender Equality Training in Bangkok

From 28 to 30 October, Gender Equality Training was delivered for Unesco’s  Bangkok office by the Divison for Gender Equality. Gulser Corat, Director of the Division, accompanied by Damiano Giampaoli and Bruno Zanobia, provided the 2- day training upon request by the Director of the Bangkok office, Mr Shigeru Aoyagi.

Gender Equality training aims at providing UNESCO staff with the necessary skills and tools to identify and overcome challenges in their efforts to promote gender equality. It is also an opportunity to reiterate how this stand-alone goal is intrinsically linked to the other 16 SDGs.

The training session also included a presentation from the Office on key gender equality issues and achievements in the region in UNESCO’s domains. Some of the achievements included the integration of a gender analysis to the Memory of the World Programme, and the update of the the Gender in Education Network in Asia-Pacific (GENIA) Toolkit, which now includes 25 modules, addressing a wide range of subjects from gender responsive education policy to mainstreaming gender equality in education practice, and capacity building.

At the of the training, the team from the Division for Gender Equality also held one-to-one meetings with colleagues from the different sectors of the Office in Bangkok as well as with colleagues from UNESCO Project Office in Myammar, who traveled specifically to undertake the training. These meetings are called Gender Clinics and are aimed at finding solutions to specific questions regarding gender equality.
