Building peace in the minds of men and women

2018 ICT in Education Prize laureate ThingLink releases free 360 images to UNESCO world heritage sites

17 April 2019

Have you ever wanted to visit the temples of Abu Simbel in Egypt or the bay of Ha Long in Vietnam?

The Finish company ThingLink, laureate of the 2018 UNESCO ICT in Education Prize for its innovative use of new technology to foster education for all, developed a collection of professional 360 images of some of the most prestigious UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Based on the belief that appreciation of different cultures and the legacy of past generations often starts from a personal experience, this free 360 image library allows users to view these images on computers, mobile devices, or mobile Virtual Reality headsets, without requiring a ThingLink account.

In addition to the individual experience, ThingLink founder and CEO Ulla Maaria Koivula invites teachers from different countries and regions to use these images to include virtual field trips in lesson plans, and to create new immersive learning experiences in multiple languages, as part of a global teacher challenge. The ThingLink Teacher Challenge 2019 focuses on developing digital storytelling skills in the context of cultural heritage and sustainable development.

All the images are available for reuse and editing under the free ThingLink Teacher account. Teachers can edit the images by adding text, photos, videos, or audio recording. The images can be used individually for specific lessons, or combined into a virtual tour.
