Welcome to the Strategic Transformation Portal

Social Media Policy & Toolkit

Transformation Newsflashes

The Strategic Transformation is about ensuring that UNESCO is capable to be more relevant for the needs of the 21st century and to stay up to date with the fast pace of the evolving communication platforms. That is why the Working Group on Communications developed two initiatives: A Social Media Policy and a Social Media Toolkit. While the policy provides guidelines regarding personal accounts for UNESCO staff, the toolkit provides the mechanics of effective communication on social media.

Social media has become a driving force and an effective tool in how we communicate, reshaping the way we connect with people around the world. UNESCO’s social media reach around 7 million people across a variety of platforms in six languages. As with any tool, it is important to know how best to use it and when.

The Social Media Policy and Toolkit aim to prepare staff to tell UNESCO’s story in a clear and compelling narrative, for communities all around the world through social media. In order for UNESCO to be nimble, timely and effective, it will take the entire organization embracing new and innovative ways to tell our story to today’s and tomorrow’s supporters of UNESCO.

The Social Media Policy and Toolkit are currently in the final design stages and will be shortly available.
