This document is a report of a two days conference on student leadership in a time of AIDS. The debates focused on youth taking leadership and embracing the opportunities to address HIV and AIDS. The sessions included: methodologies in working with students, monitoring and evaluation and peer education, and institutionalising HIV and AIDS programmes.
Action Plan on Bullying, launched by the Minister for Education and Skills, and the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, sets out twelve actions to help prevent and tackle bullying in primary and second level schools. Among the twelve actions recommended by the working group are proposals to: Support a media campaign focused on cyber bullying specifically targeted at young people as part of Safer Internet Day 2013; Establish a new national anti-bullying website; Begin development immediately of new national anti-bullying procedures for all schools. …
The objective of this cross-sectional study was to identify the sexual behavior and knowledge of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) amongst 752 undergraduate university students in South Africa, using self-administered questionnaires. More than half reported presently being sexually active, the majority used contraceptives and especially used condoms. Almost a third of the sample, had multiple sexual partners, and more than a quarter of them reported to have sex under the influence of alcohol. …
This Policy and Strategy Framework is based on the “Policy Framework on HIV and AIDS for Higher Education in South Africa” that was adopted in November 2008. The provisions of the 2008 Policy Framework remain valid but have been reconfigured to align with the 2012-2016 National Strategic Plan for HIV, STIs and TB. The alignment of the Policy and Strategic Framework with the NSP is based on the integral relationship of higher education institutions to society and its imperatives. …
This Review is a collaboration between HAICU, based at the University of Cape Town, and the CSA, based at the University of Pretoria. These two organisations are committed to finding ways to understand and explain the HIV and AIDS epidemics, and to determining how tertiary institutions and the wider society may come to address and act on the many complex and fascinating social, moral, political, economic and educational issues that the epidemics raise.
There is inadequate information on the burden of HIV infection, and on the prevalence of the risk factors for HIV transmission among University students in Uganda. Routine sources of data such as HIV surveillance and national population-based AIDS Indicator surveys do not provide information on institutional populations such as University students. Moreover, these sub-populations require interventions to address the risk factors that expose them to HIV infection in their unique settings. …

On any given day, more than one billion children around the world attend school. Many of these children enjoy their right to be taught in a safe and stimulating environment. For many others, however, schooling does not guarantee such opportunity. These girls and boys are exposed to bullying, sexual and gender-based violence, corporal punishment and other forms of violence with or without the approval of education authorities. Many are also exposed to schoolyard fighting, gang violence, assault with weapons, and sexual and gender-based violence by their own peers. …

De nos jours la pandémie du VIH/SIDA a atteint toutes les couches socioprofessionnelles. Ainsi, l'organisation des campagnes de sensibilisation et d'éducation devrait être un facteur important dans la prise de conscience des acteurs sociaux. Malheureusement les réalités du terrain sont en déphasage avec les politiques et programmes des associations des institutions et des ONG militant en faveur de l'éradication du mal. …
