  1. Ghana's education sector HIV/AIDS policy

    The education sector's specific policy statements and strategies have been outlined under the National Strategic Framework (NSF II) 2006-2010. The policy has been developed to: 1. Highlight the sector's commitment to the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic, 2. Provide guidelines and milestones that will ensure that all stakeholders tackle the problem of HIV/AIDS within the sector with a unified purpose. After an analysis of the situation, the plan proposes objectives, strategies and responses to the global situation.

  3. A survey report on information needs assessment on ARH in selected countries in Asia and the Pacific

    This report is the outcome of a survey conducted in May 2004 among programmes/projects or organizations with Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH) activities, UNFPA's country offices in the Asia and the Pacific region and other partners.     This discussion paper elaborates how laws can be developed in order to improve protection of reproductive and sexual health, and how they can be applied to facilitate the availability of reproductive health services.   6. Generation Rx.com : how young people use the internet for health information

    The report presents an analysis of the results of Generation Rx.com, a nationally representative, random dial telephone survey of 1209 young people ages 15-24, with an oversample 200 non-white respondents. The survey was designed to examine how young people use Internet for health information: are they turning to the Internet for information on their health and well-being; what types of issues are they researching online; how they go about finding the information they need; do they trust what they learn; does the information they find influence their behaviour.

  7. Social marketing for adolescent sexual health: results of Operations Research Projects in Botswana, Cameroon, Guinea, and South Africa

    AIDS, other sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancies have reached critical levels in sub-Saharan Africa, creating a need for innovative prevention programs for vulnerable groups. This report describes operations research projects in Botswana, Cameroon, Guinea, and South Africa that attempted to determine whether social marketing interventions improved adolescent understanding of sexual health issues and access to reproductive health products and services.

  11. How does the impact of an HIV/AIDS information campaign vary with educational attainment? Evidence from rural Uganda

    The responsiveness to information is thought to be one channel through which education affects health outcomes. This paper tests this hypothesis by examining the effectiveness of an information campaign that aims at preventing the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Uganda. Previous studies in the epidemiological literature have generally concluded that, in Africa, there was either a positive or no association between HIV infection and schooling levels. …
