Element Language, dance and music of the Garifuna (Belize - Guatemala - Honduras - Nicaragua)
Inscribed in 2008 (3.COM) on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (originally proclaimed in 2001)
Title EN: The Garifuna communities, spread over Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, have kept alive their common language, oral traditions, music and dances. Although still practiced on various occasions, these are changing considerably as the Garifuna language is less often spoken.
Title FR: Établie dans ces quatre pays d’Amérique centrale, la communauté Garifuna a su conserver sa langue commune, ses traditions orales, sa musique et ses danses. Si elles sont encore pratiquées en de nombreuses occasions, elles se transforment considérablement, la langue Garifuna étant de moins en moins parlée.
Title ES: Las comunidades garifuna, presentes en Belice, Guatemala, Honduras y Nicaragua, han mantenido vivo un patrimonio común formado por la lengua, las tradiciones orales, la música y la danza. Aunque todavía se practican en ocasiones varias, estas tradiciones están sufriendo cambios sustanciales, pues la lengua garifuna se utiliza cada vez con menos frecuencia.
