A short session of the Intergovernmental Bioethics Committee (IGBC)will be convened on 25 November 2019 in Room IV from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. to elect its Bureau.

In accordance with Rule 3 of its Rules of Procedure, the IGBC will proceed with the election of a Chairperson, four Vice-Chairpersons and a Rapporteur.

The election of the IGBC Bureau is scheduled as soon as possible after the election of new Member States to the IGBC by the 40th General Conference on 21 November 2019, so as to take advantage of the presence of representatives during the General Conference. As such, continuing and new Member States of the IGBC are invited to attend the election of the IGBC Bureau at the time indicated above. For continuing Member States of the IGBC, we should be grateful if you would please indicate the name and title of your designated representative(s) for this election to the Secretariat at your earliest convenience.

The working languages will be English and French. Furthermore, during its 11th Session in Paris (June 2019), the IGBC unanimously decided to suspend Rules 12.1 and 12.2 of its Rules of Procedure for the election of its next Bureau, and authorized the Secretariat to conduct this election in English and French only. In accordance with this decision, simultaneous interpretation will be provided in English and French for the election.
