Funds in Trust

To support and to strengthen UNESCO's activities in in Asia and the Pacific region, along the lines of UNESCO's strategic programme objectives and priorities, UNESCO Office in Jakarta works in partnership with the Government of Indonesia, Japan and Malaysia through partnership.

Indonesian Funds in Trust

Indonesia formalized its USD 6 million contribution to the UNESCO Emergency Multi-Donor Fund on 2 March 2012 through an exchange of letters between Mr Muhammad Nuh, the country’s Minister of Education and Culture, and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova.

Malaysian Funds in Trust

The Government of Malaysia and UNESCO have decided to establish the Malaysia-UNESCO FIT where the Government of Malaysia will provide USD9 million for supporting the implementation, through UNESCO, of projects jointly selected under the "Malaysia-UNESCO Cooperation Programme" (MUCP). The establishment of the MUCP was announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Hon. Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak during the 35th session of UNESCO General Conference in 2009. The MFIT Agreement covers all areas of competence of UNESCO and stimulates South-South cooperation for the benefit of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Small Island States (SIDS) in Asia and the Pacific and in support of the Priority Africa agenda of UNESCO, while building on Malaysian institutions and expertise.

Japanese Funds in Trust

In recognition of the important role of science and technology for sustainable development, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan has contributed UNESCO in the form of the Japanese Funds-in-Trust (JFIT) in order to strengthen UNESCO activities in the field of science in Asia and the Pacific region since the 1970's.
