Volunteers
Volunteering is a popular form of cooperation with the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and Memorial, especially among students. Volunteers in the various Museum departments gain experience in preparing and carrying out different kinds of educational, preservation, or publishing projects.
There are two types of volunteer work at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim:
- On-site—in Oświęcim, while staying at the Museum
- Distance—at home, working on various Museum projects
Candidates
We are looking for adult students, journalists, and teachers. Candidates should have the following character traits and skills, depending on the type of project: an interest in Auschwitz, the Holocaust, and World War II; time for the project; dedication; the ability to use a computer and office equipment; and a knowledge of foreign languages.
Contact and recruitment
Candidates for volunteer work should send their CV to the Museum. The Museum signs a contract for volunteer services with successful candidates. Contracts are for a minimum of 6 months, with a minimum of 40 hours work per month. Under certain circumstances, the period may be shortened to, for instance, 3 months. Candidates who work at the Museum must also present a certificate of insurance.
Board and lodging
Depending on availability, the Museum may offer overnight accommodation in guest rooms, for a fee. The Museum commits itself to providing volunteers with safe, hygienic working conditions, and to inform them of any possible health or safety risks, and of how to protect themselves from danger. The Museum does not cover travel costs or provide board for volunteers.

- Office for Cooperation with Former Prisoners
