From 4 to 8 November 2019, the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar organized the “Underwater Archaeology Practical Workshop” with participants from France, Italy, Spain and Senegal. It provided them the opportunity to learn new skills and improve their knowledge during an intensive one-week course.

The trainees, under the guidance of the ICUA Zadar, carried out the activity of underwater survey. An inspection of Radnjača Cove on the Vir Island in Zadar County was carried out and the most significant archaeological finds from the Roman period were collected, while a large amount of tegulae (flat roman tiles) in the northern part of the cove was documented in situ with underwater cameras. The next three days were spent on Dugi otok, in the bay of Lučina in small place called Brbinj. At the Pod Narat position, two ballast piles from the modern period were confirmed. During two days, the participants took part in all methodological excavation activities, from assembling metal construction for probes and collecting surface archaeological finds to working with a water pump and water dredges, and documentation of the archaeological finds.

Following the underwater research, the participants of the workshop had a chance to see different archaeological artefacts exhibited in the ICUA Gallery of Underwater Archaeology, the Museum of Ancient Glass and the Archaeological Museum in Zadar.
