Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB)

UNESCO leverages scientific knowledge for the benefit of the environment and the management of natural resources in Tanzania. The focus with regards to Tanzania has been on building strong management capacities for the effective management of the country’s three Biosphere Reserves:

UNESCO is also supporting the processes for the nomination of newly proposed sites into the World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR).

12 – 14 June 2012 UNESCO Supports Tanzania in Nominating New Biosphere Reserve

MABUNESCO supported the Tanzania National Environmental Management Council (NEMC) to organize a training workshop for the National MAB Committee on the essentials for nominating new biosphere reserves. A new manual was also developed to cascade the knowledge to other stakeholders in the country, and to innovate approaches to integrating gender and Culture for Development in the nomination process.
