These patterns reflect a profound triple burden of malnutrition – undernutrition, hidden hunger and overweight – that threatens the survival, growth and development of children and of nations. …

  12. Regional report: sexual and reproductive health laws and policies in selected Arab countries

    This report is an attempt to provide a bird’s eye view on the situation of legislative tools and frameworks in selected Arab countries with regard to key issues related to reproductive health. Legislative environment is an enabling factor that creates supportive space and mechanisms to effect systemic, societal and individual change. This regional analysis is a starting point that should be built on to develop in depth analyses on the national levels to identify gaps and propose bridging and corrective measures.

    Acceptability and experience of sexual and gender-based violence is alarmingly high among adolescent girls in Zambia. Even more striking is the very young age from which notions of violence are ingrained and experience with violence begins. This brief summarizes the Adolescent Girls Empowerment Program (AGEP) evaluation which demonstrated that in the Zambian context, a program focused on changing norms among girls themselves is not enough to impact attitudes toward and experience of violence. …
