Seminar #1. Protecting and transforming education for shared futures and our common humanity

UNESCO and the Fundación Santillana invited to reflect on the possible deep and fundamental transformations in which societies, politics, economies and even cultures may be organized in the future and to inquire into the role that education can play in facilitating them.

In the context of the COVID-19 crisis, the focus was on what can be learnt from it and the actions needed to protect and transform education for the interests of humanity and the planet.

UNESCO’s Education Research and Foresight programme and the Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean, together with Fundación Santillana, jointly hosted this webinar. It was held in Spanish and featured four members of the International Commission on the Futures of Education, who exchanged ideas and engaged with online attendees through Q&A. The group of panelists as composed of

  • Mrs. Elisa Guerra, Founder, Colegio Valle de Filadelfia, Mexico
  • Mr. António Nóvoa, Ambassador of Portugal to UNESCO
  • Mrs. Tarcila Rivera Zea, Executive Director, Centro de Culturas Indígenas del Perú
