International training workshop “Digital technologies and transformation of higher education”

The UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) in partnership with Georgian Technical University organizes the international training workshop “Digital technologies and transformation of higher education” on 22–23 November 2018 in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The event is designed to contribute to building the capacities of university administrators and academic staff to use digital technologies in order to improve the efficiency and quality of universities’ performance. The agenda of the workshop covers the following topics:

  • transformation of modern educational systems,
  • digital technology in higher education,
  • e-learning and open educational resources as a driver for university development,
  • development and implementation of digital educational resources, intellectual property and open licenses,
  • digital skills and media and information literacy.

Invited speakers

Dr. Sang-Baek (Chris) Kang is Director of Global Cooperation at Korea Local Information Research and Development Institute (KLID), which is a Korean government organization, specialized in local informatization and smart city. At KLID, Dr. Kang is in charge of global cooperation with partner countries regarding local e-government and smart service deployment.  Prior to taking up this position, he was a business developer for Jazan University e-Learning system in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Kang has diverse international experience regarding smart technologies and ICTs from private companies to public organizations. His academic and research interests span on Smart e-government, e-Learning, Mobile, Cloud Computing, Electric Vehicles, 5G, Smart Grid, etc.

Dr. Alexander Fadeev is Vice-Rector for Digital Affairs and Director of the Center for Digital Education at Tomsk Polytechnic University. The main area of his professional activity is the development of information systems based on methods of digital economy, process management based on data and its analysis. He is engaged in the development of systems of blended and distance education for undergraduate students, both full-time and part-time, production and integration of the MOOC university into the educational process. Alexander Fadeev actively promotes the development of practice-oriented digital educational resources: virtual laboratory complexes, VR and AR-simulators, especially for engineering education. He is the winner of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology for young scientists.

Dr. Natalia Dneprovskaya is Associate Professor of the Department of Information System Management and Programming of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. Dr. Dneprovskaya has been involved in practical and research activities in the field of IT in education since 2001. She is a member of the program committee of the European Conference on E-learning and the European Conference on Knowledge Management. Dr. Dneprovskaya was in charge of implementation of a number of international projects. She is the author and lecturer of courses: information resources of innovative economy, mechanisms of digital transformation for business, information systems management, distributed and analytical information systems, knowledge management, information resources management. Her main research interests are the mechanisms of digital transformation of societies, including education and economics.

Ms. Tatiana Murovana is Programme Specialist at the Unit of Digital Pedagogy and Learning Materials of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, where she is responsible for the projects on promoting digital skills and media and information literacy for quality and inclusive education. Working with UNESCO since 2000, Tatiana Murovana has managed a number of projects on information access, digital information preservation, information ethics, media education and information literacy, and multilingualism in cyberspace. Ms. Murovana has issued about 15 publications on those and other topics. Currently, Ms. Murovana is developing the project aimed to promote media and information literacy via mobile learning, and to contribute to the lifelong teachers’ professional development through a set of mobile learning tools based on media and information literacy programmes.

The two-day event programme includes various working formats and activities – a panel session, regional consultations, round table discussions, and master classes.

Simultaneous translation between English, Russian and Georgian will be provided.

Interested university administrators and academic staff from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are invited to participate and register for the event. Please, register by November 15, 2018. There is no registration fee for participation.

Participation is by invitation only. Selected participants will receive invitations from organizers by November 19, 2018.
