Under the global theme 'Journalism without fear or favour' the regional commemoration of World Press Freedom Day for the Mekong countries will be held in Bangkok, Thailand on mid-October in partnership with Public Media Alliance and the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand (FCCT).
The focus this year is on successes in enhancing professional journalism and the foundation of independent news media institutions.

- A public forum at FCCT will showcase and share the diverse efforts at pushing back against the pressures and at securing editorial independence for journalism, and

- A workshop on the safety of journalists, in particular women, will be held at UNESCO Bangkok for journalists from the Mekong countries.
