The UNESCO Office in Port-au-Prince, in collaboration with the Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean in Havana, convenes a ResiliArt-Transcultura debate in the framework of the International Decade for People of African Descent, with the participation of artists from the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
Panellists will examine the massive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their work, and analyze possible solutions to improve the creative sector's resilience.
ResiliArt is a series of online debates with key professionals and artists in the industry, both well-known and emerging, which seeks to raise awareness of the pandemic’s impact on the culture sector, as well as the importance of the cultural and creative industries for economic development and social cohesion. It also aims to support Member States in designing and developing financial policies and mechanisms that can help individuals and creative communities to overcome the current crisis.
The questions that will structure this debate are centred on themes relative to the artists' work, their commitments as creators, the problems and challenges they face, the concerns and questions that divide and unite people of African descent, as well as issues related to the border, migration, confinement, love and the Caribbean.
They will also discuss their means of production, cultural distribution and circulation in the Caribbean in the present context and, in general, cooperation between the two countries, as well as between the region and Europe.
For this debate, artists, networks and institutions from both countries will be invited to discuss the projects they are carrying out regarding people of African descent.
This debate takes place in the context of the Transcultura Programme implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the support of the European Union, which reaches artists from 17 CARICOM, CARIFORUM and OECS Member States. With Transcultura, Cuba and its partners contribute to the development of the Caribbean and the cultural and creative industries of the countries in the region by building the capacities of young men and women, professionals in the fields of art and culture.
