As of today, the African Postgraduate Diploma has trained 229 experts from 39 countries worldwide, with a 94% of satisfaction. The Postgraduate Diploma combines a two-week face-to-face session – comprising workshops, roundtables, school visits and conferences animated by distinguished international and national experts – and online learning sessions and activities over a period of nine months. From 2016, the Postgraduate Diploma is being supplemented by a Master's programme in Curriculum Design and Development, entirely hosted at the Open University of Tanzania. These two training programmes are mainly addressed to policymakers, planners, curriculum designers and developers, educators, principals, supervisors, teacher trainers, teachers and researchers. They represent a crucial and unique opportunity for reframing visions of curriculum, education and even of society within Education 2030 and Sustainable Development Goal 4 both geared towards “ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
These initiatives are being supported and implemented by the International Bureau of Education, UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Education in Africa (BREDA) and UNESCO's Section of Teacher Development (ED/ESC/TED), in collaboration with the Open University of Tanzania (OUT). It is made possible due to the generous support of the Norway commission and UNESCO-Hamdan bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers.
