Reinforcing networks and capacities on cultural policies in Asia-Pacific

UNESCO will organize a 5-day workshop in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 11 to 15 June 2018, with the support of the Korean Government (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and the Korean National Commission for UNESCO.  

The aim of the workshop  will be to raise awareness about the benefits of ratifying and implementing the 2005 Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, facilitate networking amongst participants, and encourage future cooperation with UNESCO on policies to support creative sectors. This year, 32 culture experts from 17 Asia-Pacific countries will participate. Participants have been selected through an open call from a pool of nearly 200 applicants and come from various fields, including the public and private sectors, academia and civil society. UNESCO Field Offices from the region will also participate in the discussions.

The training will also provide a basis to increment in future the representation of Asia Pacific experts in the Expert Facility of 2005 Convention. The event will be opened by JUNG Young-suk, Director of the International Cultural Affairs Division at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kwangho KIM, Secretary General of the Korean National Commission UNESCO and Danielle Cliche, Chief of the Diversity of Cultural Expression Section at UNESCO.

In the margins of the workshop, a public debate to discuss the findings of UNESCO’s 2018 Global Report “Re|Shaping Cultural Policies” will be organized on 14thJune at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History.
