News: IITE and partners in action

The 12th Session of the IITE Governing Board was held in Moscow from 15 to 16 November 2011. The Governing Board welcomed its newly appointed members – Prof. Donald G. Knezek (Chief Executive Officer of International Society for Technology in Education, USA) and Prof. Stoyan Denchev (Rector of State University of Library Studies and Information Technologies, Bulgaria).  Read more 12th session of the IITE Governing Board

Global partnership in the sphere of ICT use in education is one of the IITE priorities. The Institute cooperates with leading universities, international professional associations, non-governmental organizations and private IT-companies. During the meeting, the partnership agreements between UNESCO IITE and IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing), Microsoft, Cisco Systems were signed. The company DYMO Mimio has donated to the Institute the equipment for training activities of the IITE. 

The partnership between UNESCO IITE and its key partners opened a new phase of their collaborative work on identifying new ways to tackle issues of ICT use in education and innovative educational technology development and implementation.  Read more The Partner’s Meeting 2011

On 2 November 2011, the Report by the Governing Board of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) on the Institute’s activities for 2010-2011 was presented at the Education Commission Session of the 36th General Conference. UNESCO IITE was one of co-organizers of the 5th International Conference on Application of Information and Communication Technologies (AICT2011 Conference) held in Azerbaijan, Baku, 12-14 October 2011 at Qafkas University, Baku State University and Institute of Information Technologies. UNESCO’s General Conference, which meets every two years, is holding its 36th session from 25 October to 10 November at the Organization’s Headquarters in Paris. Delegations from 193 Member States, Associate Members, as well as observers for non-Member States, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are attending the session. The General Conference will decide on UNESCO’s proposed programme and budget for the 2012-2013 biennium, which gives priority to sustainable development, culture of peace and non-violence, with a special emphasis on gender equality, Africa, youth, Education for All (EFA), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) and the most vulnerable segments of society. Third session of the project "Public Diplomacy Corps" was opened on the premises of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on 26 September, 2011 and will work until 30 September. UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) was invited to take part in the event and meet with its participants. The analytical survey “Open Educational Resources in Lithuania: State-of–the-Art, Challenges and Prospects for Development” (author – Airina Volungeviciene) has been out of print. The publication opens the series of case studies summarizing best practices in OER in non-English-speaking countries. From 6 to 10 September 2011, UNESCO Director-General visited the Russian Federation for participation in the Yaroslavl Global Policy Forum and meeting with President Dmitry Medvedev.

The Yaroslavl Forum brought together renowned public figures from across the world, including former Heads of States, Ministers, Nobel Prize laureates and scholars, to explore the theme of “Modern State in an Age of Social Diversity.”

At the forum, Irina Bokova delivered a clear message that cultural diversity and cultural literacy are vital for building healthy societies and stable states. “Cultural Diversity: Building Bridges to Lasting Peace” was the theme of her address. UNESCO IITE took part in the scientific-practical conference “Partnership of education, business and science in the field of ICT”, which took place at the College of Automatization and Informational Technologies № 20 on 7 September 2011. The Conference was organized by the Department of Education of Moscow, educational establishment “Educational-methodological Centre for TVET” and College of Automatization and Informational Technologies № 20. The International Conference “Emerging Information & Communication Technologies in Higher Education-2011” was held on July 8–10, 2011 at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. It became a joint effort of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education.
