يمثل تقليد مغارة الميلاد (سزوبكا) في مدينة كراكوف ممارسة اجتماعية نشأت من عادات الاحتفال بعيد الميلاد، وتتمحور حول بناء مغارة المهد. ويعود تاريخ هذا التقليد إلى القرن التاسع عشر، ويرتبط ارتباطاً وثيقاً بمدينة كراكوف، ويقوم على توارث المهارات والمعارف من جيل إلى آخر. ومغارة الميلاد في كراكوف (سزوبكا) عبارة عن نموذج هيكلي لمغارة المهد محاطة بنماذج لمنازل ومبان تاريخية من مدينة كراكوف، يصنعها صاحب المغارة، وتصوَّر فيها مشاهد أخرى تتضمن تماثيل وأنواراً اصطناعية، وتمثل أحداثاً اجتماعية وثقافية وتاريخية معاصرة عن الحياة في مدينة كراكوف وبولندا وسائر أنحاء العالم. ويجتمع المصنعون في أول يوم خميس من شهر كانون الأول/ديسمبر من كل عام في ساحة كراكوف الرئيسية لعرض أعمالهم، ويقوم المتحف التاريخي للمدينة بعرض هذه الأعمال على الجمهور من كانون الأول/ديسمبر إلى شباط/فبراير، مما يتيح نقل المعارف المرتبطة بهذه الممارسة. ويشمل الممارسون مجموعة من أربعين من حاملي هذا التقليد الأكثر نشاطاً، يقومون ببناء مغارات ميلاد جديدة كل عام، وينظمون ورش عمل ومحاضرات لتعزيز هذه الممارسة ونقل المعارف المرتبطة بها. والمشاركة في هذا التقليد مفتوحة للجميع ولا سيما المشاهدين والزوار من مختلف الأطياف الحضرية. ولهذه الممارسة أيضاً وظائف تربوية مهمة، إذ تنقل المعارف المتعلقة بتاريخ المدينة وهندستها المعمارية وعاداتها المحلية.
