UNESCO IITE Open Initiative “Innovative Educational Technologies”

On the occasion of the International Day of Education 2020 UNESCO IITE launches a new initiative aimed to capture the ongoing trends in the impact of innovative educational technologies on society, education and progress towards Sustainable Development Goals.

Objectives

This Open Initiative encourages a broad range of stakeholders to promote best practices, expertise and innovation and to acknowledge excellence in ICT in teaching/learning to:

  • foster the expansion of the use of emerging technologies within the education system
  • encourage the development of 21st century skills
  • promote the development of innovative models for teaching/learning and curriculum materials using ICT
  • focus attention on using digital technologies by rewarding good practice

UNESCO IITE is inviting education experts and practitioners to share innovative ideas for ICT in education. Please submit a one-page case study about the use of technology to enhance access, equity or quality of education, for example digital courses, virtual laboratories, education management information systems, AI, augmented and virtual reality, etc.

Participation

The case studies should reflect the new paradigm of learning, including 21st century skills, student-centered and collaborative approach, critical thinking, cultural relevance, interactive learning styles and multimedia for learning, networked and social learning, and development of collective intelligence, multiple intelligences, creativity and innovativeness. Links to online resources/demo or illustrations, screenshots, etc. are most welcome.

Suggested structure:

  • A description of the addressed challenges
  • Selected solutions: technology for and in education
  • Project actors and supporters
  • Lessons learnt
  • Contact details

Selection

UNESCO IITE experts will evaluate all submissions using a set of predefined selection criteria, including innovative use of technology in instructional practices demonstrating an engaging and inspiring character that makes learning enjoyable, motivates students and assists in maintaining their psychological and physical health. Essays on innovations in other aspects of educational practice, for example, administration, credentialing or learning analytics are also accepted. Depending on the type of technology and its application, the other criteria will be design of the solution, collaboration, technical reliability and scalability, engagement of teachers and students, originality of the presentation.

The most promising practices will be presented during the International UNESCO IITE Forum 2020 to be held in August 2020 in Moscow. UNESCO IITE will fund the participation in the Forum for an author of the best submission. The best case studies will be posted at UNESCO portal.

Submission deadline

Submissions in English or Russian should be sent to d.kapelyushnik@unesco.org. The submission period has been extended till April 24, 2020 due to the current global situation.
