Partners in teacher development

The International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 is a voluntary international alliance of partners including national governments, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, international development agencies, civil society organizations, private sector organizations, and UN agencies working together to help countries achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4, Target 4.c.

UNESCO Institutes and Centres

  • The UNESCO Institute of Statistics is the official and trusted source of internationally-comparable data on education, science, culture and communication. As the official statistical agency of UNESCO, the UIS produces a wide range of indicators in UNESCO’s fields of action. In relation to teachers and improving the quality of education it collects data from countries on teacher supply, training, and qualifications and produces the UNESCO eAtlas of Teachers.
  • The International Institute for Educational Planning is particularly concerned with expanding quality education to provide equitable and relevant learning opportunities to all. It focuses on the organization and management of teacher careers.
  • The International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa addresses the educational, technical and professional needs of Africa in teacher development, school leadership and management. It enhances the capacity of Africa’s teacher education institutions and furthers the use of technological improvements in teacher development, such as the use of the electronic media in teacher education as well as mainstreaming gender equality.
  • The International Bureau of Education works to enhance curriculum development and education content.
  • The Institute for Information Technologies in Education (Moscow, Russian Federation) assists countries in the use of information and communication technologies in education.
  • The South Asian Centre for Teacher Development (SACTD) serves as a knowledge and training centre for teachers to improve the quality of education in the South Asian region through high quality teacher development and holistic education.
  • The UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme, which involves over 700 institutions in 116 countries, promotes international inter-university cooperation and networking to enhance institutional capacities through knowledge sharing and collaborative work.

United Nations organizations and agencies

External partners

  • Education International is a global union federation that represents organizations of teachers and other education employees. It is the world’s largest, most representative global and sectoral organization of unions with more than 32 million trade union members in about 400 organisations in 170 countries and territories.
  • The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is a multi-stakeholder partnership and funding platform that aims to strengthen education systems in developing countries in order to dramatically increase the number of children who are in school and learning. GPE brings together developing countries, donors, international organizations, civil society, teacher organizations, the private sector and foundations.
  • The “Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance”, established in 1998, aims to improve educational performance at all levels and sectors under the supervision of the Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates, honouring all groups and relevant authorities in the education sector and institutions, as well as the individuals who provide outstanding achievements and creations.
