UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) conducted a series of trainings on media and information literacy within three events organised by the Russian Committee for UNESCO Information for All Programme and its partners in Elista, Astrakhan and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Russian Federation) in September and October 2017. A total of more than 350 representatives of education institutions, university, school and public libraries and local governments benefited from empowering new skills needed for successful work and life in digital era.
Two inter-regional workshops on promoting reading and media and information literacy were organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Kalmykia, the National Library of the Republic of Kalmykia, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Astrakhan Region, the Astrakhan region Academic Library, Russian Committee for UNESCO Information for All Programme and the Interregional Library Cooperation Centre on September 20, 2017, in Elista (Republic of Kalmykia), and on September 21-22, 2017, in Astrakhan (Astrakhan region), Russian Federation. The workshops focused on the issues of the adoption and implementation of youth reading programmes, as well as on the topic of promotion of media and information literacy.
The theoretical and practical conference “Media and Information Literacy and Promotion of Reading” were organised by the Ministry of Culture and Archives of Sakhalin Region, the Sakhalin Regional Academic Library, the Russian Committee for UNESCO Information for All Programme and the Interregional Library Cooperation Centre with support of the Russian Federal Agency on Print and Mass Media on October 9-11, 2017, in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Russian Federation). The conference was aimed at media and information literacy promotion and inclusion into education policy and practice, and at development of the capacities of educational institutions and facilitation of inter-sectoral collaboration in the area. The reading promotion and development in Russia were also on the agenda of the conference.
Ms Tatiana Murovana, UNESCO IITE programme specialist, participated in the organisation and holding the events, presented the Institute’s initiatives and activities concerning the development of the media and information literacy and conducted trainings on the subject.
