‘Urban Solutions: Learning from the cities’ responses to COVID-19’, UNESCO Cities Platform online meeting

In the framework of the UNESCO Cities Platform (UCP), the UNESCO will organize the online meeting ‘Urban Solutions: Learning from the cities’ responses to COVID-19’ on Thursday 25 June, 2020, from 1:30 to 5:00 PM CET. The UCP encompasses 8 UNESCO city Networks and Programmes from all its fields of expertise, including the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

Being at the forefront, cities have played a central role in the global response to the ongoing pandemic. Through three debates and a special session on sustainable tourism, the meeting will focus on cities’ actions during the different stages of the pandemic, namely: a) cities’ immediate response to the crisis; b) early recovery in cities; and, c) building a more resilient future for cities. The special session will explore the impact of the pandemic on the tourism sector, and how the sector’s recovery towards sustainable tourism, can support cities’ resilience and sustainability in the post-COVID-19 period.

On this occasion, the UNESCO Cities Platform will bring together diverse urban stakeholders - including mayors, local policymakers, professionals and practitioners, NGOs, international institutions to support city decision-makers in mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 crisis and work towards building sustainable and resilient cities of tomorrow.

The meeting will be held in both English and French, with simultaneous interpretation.
