Screening of "Rona, Azim's Mother (Rona, Madar-e Azim)"

In the context of the 13th session of the Intergovernmental Committee, UNESCO will screen the film Rona, Azim's Mother (Rona, Madar-e Azim), winner of the Prize for Cultural Diversity under the patronage of UNESCO at the 2019 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).

Directed by Jamshid Mahmoudi, the film tells the story of Azim, an Afghan refugee living in Tehran with his family and facing a grave decision regarding his very ill mother. The film provides an illuminating picture of family tensions and bureaucratic frustrations in a displaced community confronted by daily challenges.

Jamshid Mahmoudi directed his first feature in 2012, A Few Cubic Meters of Love, which was selected to represent Afghanistan in the Best Foreign Language Film category of the Academy Awards in 2014. It screened at over 30 international festivals and won eight awards.

The screening of Rona, Azim’s Mother will take place on Thursday February 13 2020 at UNESCO HQ in Room II. It will be followed by a discussion
