The Conference brings together People Living with Albinism (PWA), Civil Society Organizations, and Government Actors from across the PALOP region. The opportunity for discussion, debate, and networking between these groups will provide the conductive basis for raising awareness about the challenges PWA face, for designing innovative solutions to such challenges, for building regional and national coalitions to promote PWA’s Human Rights, and for rethinking national policies aimed at PWA protection. The conference, in addition, will aim to build the capacity of key groups and organizations to defend the rights of PWA through the provision of relevant knowledge, instruments, and tools.

The Conference is organized under the overall leadership of UNESCO, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs of Mozambique, the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa, the UN Independent Expert on the Enjoyment of Human Rights by Persons with Albinism, the Ford Foundation, the United Nations Population Fund, and the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner.
