Key National and Sub-National Stakeholders Meet in Kampong Cham to Review Maths Grade 1 Package

03/09/2020
Kampong Cham, Cambodia

Last week, the Primary Education Department (PED) with the support of the Strengthening Teacher Education Programmes in Cambodia (STEPCam) –implemented by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport (MoEYS) with financial support from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) for which UNESCO is the Grant Agent - organized a four-day consultative workshop in Kampong Cham to review the teacher guide and student support book for Grade 1 Mathematics. With technical support from the Open Institute, the workshop provided key national and sub-national stakeholders with the opportunity to review the materials based upon the findings of the Programme pilot in Siem Reap in the 2019/20 academic year and feedback from teachers who used it during distance learning.

The consultative workshop, organized from 26-29 August 2020, brought together 35 representatives (14 female) from the MoEYS’s Mathematics Core Team, the Provincial Offices of Education, District Offices of Education, Provincial Teacher Training Centres, Grade 1 teachers and NGO partners. Over the course of four days, the participants reviewed and discussed the materials in an interactive format to ensure that can adequately prepare teachers to improve students’ learning outcomes in Grade 1 Mathematics.

Following the input from the workshop, STEPCam will continue refine the teacher guide before onward submission to the MoEYS for approval and roll-out in all schools in five provinces of Siem Reap, Oddar Meanchy, Kratie, Preah Vihear and Stung Treng in the 2021 academic year.
