UNESCO with OCHA Support Access to Distance Learning for Vulnerable Children in Iraq

30/09/2020

From the 20th of Sep 2020, UNESCO is training 80 teachers (50 males and 30 females) to produce quality TV classes using modern pedagogical techniques and technologies. The Minister of Education, Dr. Ali Hameed Mukhlif, visited and participated in the training.

This training will enable the teachers to produce high quality age appropriate content, addressing the different learning needs of the boys and girls. UNESCO’s partner, Al-Ethar Humanitarian Foundation, is facilitating the organization of the trainings. The project is supported by OCHA.

60,000 students will be trained of Grades 1 – 12 (31,200 boys and 28,800 girls) from the most vulnerable areas will directly benefit from quality TV lessons. In addition, more than 9 million students from all over Iraq will benefit from the broadcast of the TV lessons in coming years.

Furthermore, to support the online distance learning for the vulnerable students, the TV lessons developed for grades 5 and 6 will be uploaded into the tablets and distributed to over 2000 students in Mosul, with support from SIDA.
