Director-General condemns murder of Colombian journalist Jose Gomez Naudin

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova today denounced the murder of Colombian radio journalist Jose Gomez Naudin, and called for a thorough investigation into his death. Gomez, 63, was shot dead in the town of Buga, in the western department of Valle del Cauca, on 29 July.

“I condemn the killing of Jose Gomez Naudin and call on the authorities to do their utmost to shed full light on this crime and to bring the perpetrators to justice” the Director-General said.

According to eyewitness reports, Gomez was gunned down by two assailants upon his arrival at Radio Guadalajara where he presented a morning talk-back programme.

He is the second journalist killed in Colombia this year and is remembered on UNESCO’s dedicated web site UNESCO Condemns the Killing of Journalists.
