UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Europe - A Network for Cultural Dialogue and Cultural Tourism

This international conference will seek to develop forms of co-operation for the foundation of a European UNESCO World Heritage Sites Network. As outstanding examples of European cultural and natural heritage, World Heritage sites may significantly contribute to the enhancement of cultural dialogue within the EU and increase the value of cultural tourism across Europe. With 830 sites in 138 States Parties, the World Heritage Convention is an excellent instrument for cultural dialogue between Europe and other regions of the world.

Representatives of cultural politics and monument preservation will come together with tourism experts and those responsible for managing World Heritage sites to develop joint strategies and find sustainable uses for our shared heritage in order to preserve it for future generations. Existing models of co-operation among European World Heritage sites shall be further developed with a view to furthering the process of integration in Europe.

The conference is organized by the German National Commission for UNESCO and the German UNESCO World Heritage Sites Association.
