Governing Board sets path for UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning in 2021

On 25 and 26 November, the Governing Board of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning met virtually to review the Institute’s work over the past year and adopt its work plan and budget for 2021.
Members of the Board expressed high satisfaction with the work of the Institute and particularly welcomed UIL’s strong performance in supporting UNESCO Member States in their educational responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of the current global challenges, Board members emphasized the increasing importance of a holistic vision of lifelong learning and the necessity to underpin this vision by adequate funding at international and national level.
In addition, the Board provided guidance for the implementation of future activities in the areas of lifelong learning policies, adult learning and education, and literacy.
The Board, currently chaired by Mr Daniel Baril, Director General of the Institute for Cooperation for Adult Education in Canada, consists of 12 members, drawn from every world region, who are nominated intuitu personae by the Director-General of UNESCO.
