Meet today’s Mediterranean superheroes. #BuildTomorrow

Networks of Mediterranean Youth (NET-MED Youth) is one unique project. It steers away from empty words, gets its feet on the ground, and is not afraid to get its hands dirty.

In other words, we provide young women and men with the necessary skills, tools and capacities to be active citizens and take part in decision-making.

Our youth members take part in the development, revision and monitoring of national youth strategies and policies; the production and monitoring of youth-related media content; and the follow-up with renowned experts on employment policy development and implementation.

We work with youth organizations from 10 countries along the eastern and western basins of the Mediterranean Sea. We also work with different national decision-makers (ministries, public institutions), social partners, media professionals, citizen journalists and bloggers. After all, everybody is an important actor to make our future sustainable!

NET-MED Youth is a five-year project (2014-2018) implemented by UNESCO and funded by the European Union.

The project is also co-funded by the State of Kuweit.

Top 5 Things that make us unique

  1. We accompany youth throughout their countries’ transitional and developmental processes to ensure their active participation and civic engagement. Our activities cannot be developed, nor implemented, without their participation.

  2. Youth are a tremendous source of innovation and energy. We harness that power and help them triple it! This is how we step out of the box and think creative… and effective.

  3. We work with existing networks of youth organizations, engage them in innovative planning processes and encourage regional and sub-regional South-South and North-South exchanges between youth civil society organizations, young journalists, bloggers and all other relevant parties.

  4. We use UNESCO’s multidisciplinary set of competencies by bringing together the areas of youth, communication and information, and skills development and employment. This makes us a flagship intersectoral project in the house, drawing on the expertise of each team to generate a wholesome project.

  5. In NET-MED Youth, our moving force is… YOUTH. They lead us, work with us, inspire us and make us better.
