Articial Intelligence (AI) is ambiguous: It has enormous potential for generating social welfare and for accelerating human progress and sustainable development. At the same time, the rapid development of AI and related technologies raises ethical concerns including questions on how to deal with the perpetuation
of bias, AI capacity building and education, privacy, data disclosure and access to data. The fast technological advances in AI also have the potential to disrupt industries, economies and entire societies.

Many Caribbean Small Island Developing States, SIDS, have not yet fully or at all established strategies and national policies to manage the impact of AI on their societies.

UNESCO has been entrusted with the task to develop the first normative instrument on the ethics of AI in the form of a recommendation.
This will help the world reach an ethical consensus on AI based on fundamental human rights.

To advance the Caribbean debate on AI, the UNESCO Cluster Office for the Caribbean, jointly with the Jamaican National Commission for UNESCO and the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica, is organizing the Caribbean SIDS Forum on Artificial Intelligence.

The Forum provides a platform for dialogue between relevant Caribbean stakeholders from the public and private sectors, the expert community, media and academia, civil society and international organizations.
Participants are invited to seize the opportunity of being the first audience exposed to the draft recommendation, as well as to share and learn from the experiences of the practical application of AI, while discussing the way forward to develop national AI strategies in the region and globally.
