External evaluations

As a UNESCO Institute intent on reflecting on its practice and applying lessons to improve its work, IIEP draws on a strong monitoring and evaluation system. IIEP’s monitoring relies a range of practices supported by three interlinked information systems, including a project portfolio management system. The Institute’s annual report to its Governing Board includes both a quantitative assessment of results through the twenty key performance indicators of its 10th Medium-Term Strategy, and a qualitative assessment provided in narrative form, both of which are posted online. With regard to evaluation, IIEP’s strategy is aligned with the broader UNESCO Evaluation Policy. In addition to project-specific evaluations, IIEP periodically commissions evaluations of its different programme lines of work. These external reviews help the Institute better understand its impact, improve its programme implementation, and inform strategic orientations, often as key inputs to the design of a new Medium-Term Strategy.  IIEP also uses evaluations to communicate evidence to its wide set of stakeholders. Ultimately, evaluations contribute to further strengthening IIEP’s support to UNESCO Member States in attaining Sustainable Development Goal 4.

Both programme and large project evaluations are available on this page:
