First Session

The first session of the Conference of the Parties was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris from 5 to 7 February 2007.  It was attended by representatives from 86 countries (including 36 of the 41 States Parties at that time) as well as WADA.

Key items of discussion included the adoption of its Rules of Procedure, amendment of Annex I of the Convention which contains the Prohibited List International Standard and agreement on the general framework to monitor the Convention.  The Conference also decided on the administration of the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport, and identified the following three priority areas for investment: (1) education projects focusing on youth and sports organizations; (2) policy advice; and (3) mentoring or capacity development programmes. 

Mr Viacheslav FETISOV (Russian Federation) was elected as the Chairperson of the Conference.  Ms Renee Anne SHIRLEY (Jamaica), Mr Jamie LISSAVETZKY DIAZ (Spain), Mr JIANG Zhixue (China) and Mr Carlos SOUSA (Mozambique) were elected as Vice-Chairpersons and Mr Kamal GUEMMAR (Algeria) was elected as Rapporteur.

The Conference of Parties will meet again in Ordinary Session from 26 to 28 October 2009, at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
