Curriculum globALE

Curriculum globALE (CG) is a cross-cultural core curriculum for the training of adult educators worldwide. It was developed jointly by the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE) and DVV International, the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association. In five modules, it describes the relevant skills needed to lead successful courses and provides guidance on their practical implementation.

Curriculum globALE aims to

    • enhance the professionalisation of adult educators working in different contexts by providing a common competence standard;
    • support adult education providers in the design and implementation of train-the-trainer programmes;
    • foster knowledge exchange and mutual understanding between adult educators across countries and regions.

    Who will benefit from Curriculum globALE?

    • Institutions providing train-the-trainer programmes may use the CG for designing training offers according to a global standard.
    • Individuals wishing to teach in adult education will gain a professional qualification of global relevance by taking part in a CG-based train-the-trainer programme.

    Who should take part in a CG training?

    • Individuals wishing to start work as teachers/trainers of adults.
    • Teachers and trainers of adults who already have some teaching experience but have not had systematic training for this work.

    Interested in using the Curriculum globALE?

    Would you like to use the curriculum globALE document as a resource for developing your own train-the-trainer programme?
    You are very welcome to do this. The CG team will be happy to provide you with further information and advice.

    Would you like to use the CG label and the CG logo for your train-the-trainer programme?
    The use of the CG label and logo in train-the-trainer programmes requires that the programme complies with the standards defined by CG and is subject to permission from the CG Team. Permission will be granted by the CG team upon successful evaluation of relevant programme materials.

    If you are interested in using the CG label and logo for your programme, you will need to provide the following:

    • your contextualized version of the curriculum globALE (adaptation of the CG to your context);
    • the detailed training programme/plan for each module (incl. list of materials used);
    • details on the trainers, their professional background and qualification.

    Moreover you will in particular need to provide answers to the following questions:

    • How will you establish the individual learning needs of your participants?
    • How will you assess the learning progress and outcomes of your participants?
    • How will you integrate practical work experience in the training programme?
    • What measures will be taken to assure the quality of the training provision? (e.g.: Is there a QA system in place at the provider institution? (How) will feedback from participants be collected and considered? etc.)

    Is there any specific learning/teaching material available which I can/should use in the implementation of a CG train-the-trainer programme?
    No particular learning/teaching material, textbooks etc. are prescribed for the implementation of the CG.
