  • Date: 17 November 2020
  • Where: Event (Republic of Korea)

On Tuesday, 17 November 2020, members of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) will meet virtually for an exchange of best practice, insights, progress and challenges in educational planning and for discussing the measurement of learning city development. The event is organized by the GNLC member cities of Goyang (Republic of Korea) and Huejotzingo (Mexico), in collaboration with the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) and UIL. The meeting will bring together member cities of the UNESCO GNLC Cluster on Educational Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; it is open to other interested cities and stakeholders.

In a context of increasing decentralisation, educational and the monitoring of lifelong learning are key elements for effective integrated urban governance systems. Within the UNESCO GNLC, there is strong recognition of the role lifelong learning plays in cities’ sustainable development; capturing this dimension is one of the challenges that the meeting intends to address.

During this online event, which will open with welcoming remarks from the Director of UIL and Mayors of Goyang and Huejotzingo, participants will discuss the results of a recent survey on educational planning in cities, which was implemented earlier this year by IIEP among member cities of the cluster. The city of Goyang will present its system of learning city indicators, other cities will share experiences on various aspects of educational planning. The meeting will also provide an update on upcoming series of cluster capacity-building workshops on educational planning and the monitoring and evaluation of learning city development.
