UIL launches a course on family and intergenerational literacy and learning

The COVID-19 crisis has forced countries around the world to implement distance, technology-enabled and other forms of home-based learning. Learning within families and across generations is key in this context. Learners who were unable to return to the classroom because of the pandemic instead often turned to parents, siblings, and other family members for support. To further advance learning within families the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) together with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), now launches an online course on planning family and intergenerational literacy and learning (FILL) programmes.
This new online course is designed for a wide range of education professionals from civil society organizations, non-governmental providers, and government institutions for literacy and early childhood education. The participation of women professionals is highly encouraged.
The first edition of the course will start on 19 October 2020. It is free of charge and will be held in English. Professionals interested in the course can send an email to uil-fill@unesco.org no later than 12 October 2020.

Background on UIL and COL
UIL has a long history of developing and promoting family and intergenerational literacy learning approaches, and provides technical support to UNESCO Member States in this regard. COL is active in promoting the development and sharing of open learning and distance education knowledge, resources and technologies.
