Afropixel#5 Festival, « Common city »: Montreal on the road to Dakar

Afropixel#5 Festival, « Common city »: Montreal on the road to Dakar

When:
Fri, 04/29/2016

From 3 to 15 May 2016, artists from the Centre for media arts Perte de Signal of the Creative City of Montreal (Design) will be collaborating with artists from the Creative City of Dakar (Media Arts) to run together a collaborative workshop-residency untitled “Libremapping”, in the framework of the Afropixel Festival whose main topic developed for this 5th edition is the “Common city”.

The Afropixel Festival is organized by the Villa Kër Thiossane and aims to develop solidarity, neighborhood and civic actions through media arts and digital technologies. More specifically, Kër Thiossane – who had been supported by the UNESCO International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) – holds collaborative projects fostering sustainable urban and social development.

It is thus in a perspective of collective, collaborative and innovative creation that, during the Festival, artists, biennalists, actors from the public and private sectors, as well as from the civil society will have the opportunity to exchange their vision of the city of tomorrow.

The workshop-residency “Libremapping” of the artists from Dakar and Montreal will be investing urban space through the use of free mapping software including “Mapmap” developed by Kër Thiossane. This intercities partnership will be crystallized by a light projection on 14 May.
