18th Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII)

Theme: “Traditional knowledge: Generation, transmission and protection”

The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) is a high-level advisory body to the United Nations Economic and Social Council with the mandate to address indigenous issues, particularly in relation to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights.   The annual sessions of the Permanent Forum provide UNESCO with an opportunity to engage with indigenous peoples in areas under its mandate.
