Working at the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning

The UNESCO Institute for Education was established in 1952 as a foundation under German law. Renamed the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) in 2006, the Institute plays a major role in shaping lifelong learning and education the world over, focusing in particular on adult and continuing education, literacy and non-formal basic education. If you are committed to working in this field, UIL may be the right employer for you. See our current job openings.

Promoting human dignity

UNESCO works on the principle that education is a human right, and it seeks to ensure that everybody can exercise this right. Lifelong learning and education is a comprehensive and unifying approach encompassing formal, non-formal and informal learning. It enables learners to acquire and enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes so that they can attain the fullest possible development at different stages and in different domains of life. Against this context, UIL offers:

as a means of providing assistance to UNESCO Member States. UIL also welcomes visiting researchers.

Enjoy our inspiring work environment

UIL currently employs about fifty staff members from more than twenty countries. They are committed to using education and lifelong learning as a tool to create peace in the minds of men and women. The Institute is housed in a beautiful building under historical protection, uses state of the art technological equipment and has a very international workforce.
