Awardees 2015

The inaugural UNESCO Learning City Award was presented to twelve cities across all UNESCO regions in 2015. All of these cities have made outstanding progress in piloting and implementing the Key Features of Learning Cities since the 1st International Conference on Learning Cities in 2013. The 2015 Awardees are: Melton (Australia), Sorocaba (Brazil), Beijing (China), Bahir Dar (Ethiopia), Espoo (Finland), Cork (Ireland), Amman (Jordan), Mexico City (Mexico), Ybycuí (Paraguay), Balanga (Philippines), Namyangju (Republic of Korea) and Swansea (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland).

The UNESCO Learning City Awardees 2015 have shared insights into building learning cities in a series of twelve video interviews entitled ‘12 Cities – 12 Perspectives’. In their interviews, these cities explain the three key ideas behind their learning cities.

Case studies of these cities are featured in a recent UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning publication entitled Unlocking the Potential of Urban Communities: Case Studies of Twelve Learning Cities.
