Placing gender equality at the heart of education for a new generation

The year 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a visionary agenda for the empowerment of women, adopted in 1995 by 189 governments. Despite great strides over the past 25 years, progress has been uneven, and many girls and women remain excluded from education around the world.

To mark International Day of the Girl Child, the Global Education Monitoring Report, the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Plan International France and UNESCO will host a webinar on gender equality in education. The event will launch two new reports aimed to help countries take stock of progress since 1995, and provide evidence-based recommendations to pave the way towards achieving gender equality in education for the new generation.

The high-level discussion will feature the voices of female leaders, young women and girls whose lives have been transformed by gains in education made over the past 25 years, and call for gender equality in education to remain a global priority in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
