    • Survey report on Intangible Cultural Heritage of Displaced Syrians: inglés

Países beneficiarios: República Árabe Siria

Resumen:

The activity consisted of a small-scale survey on intangible cultural heritage of displaced Syrians conducted on an experimental basis.

The objective was aimed at gaining a better understanding of the changing role and function of the intangible cultural heritage of displaced Syrians, its potential for resilience and the ways in which communities try to transmit their intangible cultural heritage to ensure its safeguarding. Interviews were carried out with a sample of some sixty people; the majority of these individuals were displaced Syrians located in Jordan and Lebanon, and some others were displaced and expatriates based in Egypt, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkey, as well as members of the host community in Jordan. As is in line with the 2003 Convention, the communities concerned are those that identify, define and transmit intangible cultural heritage, therefore their views on the living heritage practiced and its safeguarding is required for any action to be carried out.

This activity was funded by the UNESCO Heritage Emergency Fund.
