Building Capacities for Periodic Reporting on the 2005 Convention in Morocco

Consultation workshop, Wednesday 11 May 2016 at 9am at the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco, Rabat

On 11 May 2016, as part of the project to build capacity for periodic reporting on the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, the Ministry of Culture organized, in cooperation with the Cluster Office to Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia, a multi-national consultation meeting.  The participants, which included experts, representatives from various Ministries and civil society organizations, gathered at the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat.

The meeting assessed and evaluated cultural policies implemented for the protection and promotion of cultural expressions, the cultural dynamics they produce and the role played by civil society. It also supported the national committee responsible for the implementation of the 2005 Convention in the elaboration of the Kingdom’s periodic report which will be submitted to UNESCO in 2017.

The implementation of this project, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency for Development (SIDA), will allow the Kingdom of Morocco, state party to the 2005 Convention since 2013, to meet its international obligations regarding the ratification of this Convention.
