Cultural Diversity and civil society

In 2015, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. This international law has been ratified to date by 140 countries. However, even after a decade, the Convention and its principles remains not very well known. One reason is that cultural diversity was mainly defended so far by diplomats and cultural professionals. Now they have a lot to do with the defense of copyright in the digital environment and cultural diversity. This symposium aims to promote civil society initiatives and good practices. What is the role of civil society? Of the market? What public policies should be stimulated or encouraged ? On which criteria should we judge the quality of a cultural policy? Is cultural diversity the sole responsibility of institutions?
