Discussing artistic freedom with new UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Deeyah Khan

On 21st November 2016, Ms  Deeyah Khan will be appointed as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador on artistic freedom by UNESCO Director General, Irina Bokova at UNESCO Heaquarters in Paris.

Deeyah Khan is a critically acclaimed music producer and Emmy and Peabody award-winning documentary film director and founder of media company Fuuse. Her work highlights human rights, women’s voices and freedom of expression for artists. She will be highlighting the work of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and the Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in particular.

A panel discussion exploring issues related to artistic freedom  will take place at 3.30 PM in Room IX,  moderated by Mr Frank La Rue, Assistant Director-General Communication and Information.

The panel will be followed by the screening of Deeyah Khan’s documentary film called JIHAD: a History of the Others (50’), exploring the root causes and appeal of radical extremism to young Muslims in The West.
