An outstanding video of Cameroon’s Dja Faunal Reserve and the Sangha TriNational submitted by Ancel Langwa won the first prize in the Instagram video contest organized by the World Heritage Centre (WHC) and the African World Heritage Fund (AWHF) on the occasion of the fourth edition of African World Heritage Day (5 May). The contest closed on Monday, May 20, 2019. The 27 submitted videos exhibited the richness and diversity of Africa's cultural and natural heritage.
A 16-member jury evaluated and selected the candidate’s videos based on their creativity, content and composition, selecting this year’s winning videos as follows:
- Dja Faunal Reserve and Sangha TriNational in Cameroon, submitted by Ancel Langwa (@ancellangwa, Cameroon). She won a six-month internship with the African World Heritage Fund in Midrand, South Africa.
- Stone Town of Zanzibar, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Kilimanjaro National Park and Serengeti National Park, in the United Republic of Tanzania, submitted by "A Journey Two Better" (@ajourneytwobetter, United Republic of Tanzania). The winner will receive a trip for two people to visit Robben Island World Heritage Site in South Africa.
The selected videos will be published on the websites of the WHC, the AWHF and their partners.
A symbolic prize-giving ceremony will be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 23 May at 6 p.m., on the occasion of the celebration of Africa Week (20 to 24 May 2019).
