Conference report: CONFINTEA VI Mid-Term Review 2017

  • December 2017

In October 2017, representatives from 95 Member States met in Suwon, Republic of Korea, and made a firm commitment to continue the implementation of the Belém Framework for Action (BFA), adopted in 2009 at the sixth International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VI).

This report gives an overview of the Mid-Term Review conference, detailing progress, activities and trends in the field of adult learning and education (ALE) since 2009, innovations and good practice. It also highlights the centrality of forging partnerships at different levels, efforts to promote the findings of the Third Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE III) and the further implementation of the Recommendation on Adult Learning and Education (2015).

Other topics included strategies and measures to enhance full implementation and sound monitoring of the BFA in preparation for CONFINTEA VII in 2021 and to increase advocacy of ALE across sectors, especially with regard to how adult learning and education will contribute to achieving the education targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
