Polly Kamukama

Mr Polly Kamukama is an award-winning Ugandan journalist and film specialist. He holds a Master’s Degree in Film Studies (majoring in Film Policy) from the University of Southampton, UK and a Bachelor’s in Mass Communication from Makerere University in Uganda. He has for the last 12 years been at the forefront of film development in Uganda, serving with different organizations in a number of capacities including as a film critic, film regulator, film publicist, film curator and academician. A faculty member at Makerere University’s Department of Performing Arts and Film (PAF) where he teaches courses in Film and Media, Mr Kamukama also currently serves as the curator for Uganda’s oldest film festival, the Amakula International Film Festival, as well as the EU-backed Euro-East Africa Film Festival. He is also a member of Uganda’s Oscar selection committee as well as Uganda’s National Expert for the ongoing EU/UNESCO Project on the Governance of Culture in Developing Countries. His areas of specialty include Film Policy, Film Marketing, Film Distribution/Exhibition, Film Criticism and Film Festivals.
